Where to Stay in the Togean Islands: Every Area Compared
Kadidiri for diving and company, Malenge for beaches and snorkeling, Una Una for serious divers, Bomba for the shortest boat ride — the six Togean accommodation areas compared from our census of all 31 verifiable properties, with real full-board prices from Rp 150,000 per person.
Accommodation in the Togean Islands (also spelled Togian Islands) clusters in six areas: Bomba (closest to Ampana), Kadidiri (the classic dive-and-backpacker island), Katupat and its islets (central), Malenge (the eastern snorkeling heartland), Una Una (the volcano dive island) and the remote Walea islands. Nearly everything is priced per person per night including all three meals — from about Rp 150,000 at a shoestring homestay to Rp 500,000-800,000 at the better mid-range places, with a couple of premium outliers above that. We maintain a full directory of every property at /resorts; this guide explains how to choose.
Last verified: June 2026. Our census covers every place to stay we could verify — the 31 properties listed in the directory, plus village homestays and two confirmed closures.
How pricing works here
The archipelago norm is per person, full board: three meals, plus coffee, tea and drinking water. There are almost no standalone restaurants, so this is not optional padding — it is how you eat. Rough tiers:
| Tier | Per person per night (full board) | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Shoestring | Rp 120,000-200,000 | Basic wooden bungalow, often shared bathroom, generator power evenings only |
| Budget | Rp 200,000-350,000 | Private bathroom, better food, established family operations |
| Mid-range | Rp 400,000-800,000 | Solid bungalows, good kitchens, often a dive center |
| Premium | above that (some price per room in EUR/USD) | 24/7 power, hot water, WiFi — rare commodities here |
Only a handful of properties (Uma Resort, Sanctum Una Una, Lia Beach, The Angkayo (ex-Ale Beach), Tanjung Kalemo, Reconnect) price per room or per bungalow rather than per person — The Cliff, despite its modern build, prices per person full board like most of the archipelago. Cash is king almost everywhere — see our money guide.
Bomba (southwest — closest to Ampana)
First stop out of Ampana (~40 minutes by speedboat), with a famous atoll dive area nearby. Quieter and less social than Kadidiri.
- Poya Lisa Cottages — the classic on its own islet, from Rp 400,000 pp full board (official 2025/26 rates).
- Island Retreat — 12 bungalows, around Rp 450,000 pp full board (older quote — confirm current rates); the biggest capacity in the area (operating status worth confirming — recent signals are thinner than its neighbors).
- Poki Poki — mid-range, from Rp 350,000 pp all-inclusive, famous food and rave reviews.
- Araya Dive Resort (formerly Bomba Divers) — treehouses and jungle houses from Rp 550,000 pp full board, with the area's dive center.
- Tanjung Kalemo Resort — beachfront cottages at Rp 700,000 per two-person bungalow (Rp 350,000 single) including all meals, cash only on-site.
Choose Bomba if: you want the shortest boat ride, the Bomba atoll dive sites, and small quiet places.
Kadidiri (the classic)
Thirty minutes from Wakai, three resorts on one beach, and the closest thing the Togeans have to a backpacker scene. Full detail in our Kadidiri island guide.
- Kadidiri Paradise — the biggest operation in the islands, from Rp 400,000 pp full board (official rates run Rp 400,000-750,000 by room tier), dive center on-site.
- Black Marlin Dive Resort — by its own account the islands' original dive centre, operating for over twenty years; from Rp 250,000 pp full board (2023 published rates — confirm current).
- Pondok Lestari — shoestring family homestay, ~Rp 150,000 pp with shared bathroom.
- Harmony Bay Resort — mid-upper dive resort on its own beach nearby, full board from Rp 750,000/night including Wakai transfers (confirm the pricing basis when booking).
Choose Kadidiri if: you dive, you travel solo and want company, or you want maximum convenience from Wakai.
Katupat & central islets
Katupat village sits on Togean Island's north side with several resorts on private islets facing it. The multi-stop boats from Ampana stop here, and the famous jellyfish lake (Mariona Lake) is nearby.
- Fadhila Cottages — family-run institution since 1996 on an islet facing the village, from Rp 450,000 pp full board (over-water Deluxe Rp 750,000).
- Bolilanga Island Resort — mid-range islet resort, Rp 400,000-800,000 pp full board by room tier, one of the best-rated properties in the islands (Booking.com 9.4).
- Uma Resort — newer, room-priced (~USD 53-96), comfortable and modern by Togean standards.
Choose Katupat if: you want village life within reach, the jellyfish lake on your doorstep, and a central base.
Malenge & nearby islets (east)
The east is where the Togeans get properly dreamy: the best house beaches, superb snorkeling reefs, and the Bajau stilt village of Pulau Papan connected to Malenge by a kilometer-long boardwalk.
- Sandy Bay Resort — Rp 400,000-500,000 pp full board (the lower figure is a 2017 published rate — confirm on inquiry), arguably the best house beach in the archipelago, kids under 12 half price.
- Bahia Tomini — Spanish-run eco resort, 4 cottages capped at 8 guests, from Rp 750,000 pp full board, fun dives for certified divers, jellyfish-lake trips.
- Lestari Cottages — family-run, Rp 400,000-450,000 pp full board (official 2025 rates).
- Sera Beach Dive Resort — from Rp 500,000 pp full board on a gorgeous white-sand beach.
- The Cliff Togean — newer dive resort with 9 modern bungalows, 24-hour solar power and free WiFi (a rarity), Rp 550,000-700,000 pp full board.
- Malenge Dive Resort / Sifa Diving Resort — four bungalows above one of Malenge's better house reefs, run by Sifa's family. The two names very likely belong to one operation, relaunched in 2025 as "New Malenge Dive Resort" at Rp 500,000 pp full board — verify via WhatsApp before booking.
- Li An Homestay and the other Pulau Papan homestays — stays inside the Bajau stilt village itself, from around Rp 185,000 with all meals at the village's registered homestay (Li An quotes rates by WhatsApp).
One caution: you may still find an old "temporarily closed" notice for Malenge Dive Resort floating around the web. It traces back to the operation's former website, and the resort relaunched in 2025 as "New Malenge Dive Resort" — but since the relaunch is recent, confirm directly via WhatsApp before booking.
Choose Malenge if: snorkeling, beaches and culture matter more to you than nightlife or convenience. It is 5-6 hours from Ampana on the multi-stop boats, and worth it.
Una Una (north — the volcano)
A dramatic active volcano rising from deep water, with the archipelago's most exciting diving. Two dive resorts: Sanctum Una Una (budget-mid, the best-reviewed dive operation in the Togeans) and Pristine Paradise (mid, Rp 300,000-800,000 pp by room grade). Full detail in our Una Una island guide.
Choose Una Una if: diving is the trip. The schooling fish here are the best in the Togeans.
Walea islands (far east) & Buka Buka
The remotest corner. Lia Beach on Walea Kodi is a designer bamboo hideaway (Rp 1.6-1.9 million per bungalow per night, full board, max 2 guests), and Togean Pulotiga Resort offers simple bungalows from around Rp 400,000 pp full board (2019 published rate — confirm on inquiry) with no phone signal at all. Two closures to know about: Walea Dive Resort is permanently closed, and Sifa Cottage on Walea Kodi closed when the family moved operations to Malenge — do not let older blogs send you there.
In the premium tier, Reconnect occupies its own niche on private Buka Buka Island, just outside the National Park boundary: from €60 per night full board for two, with 24/7 solar power, Starlink WiFi and an SSI dive center. Access is its quietest luxury — Buka Buka does not depend on the public boats at all, with private transfers running on request from Tete jetty (~30 minutes, free one-way on stays of 7 nights or more), which makes it the easiest resort in the archipelago to reach. It is the option for people who want the Togeans without the rough edges, priced accordingly.

FAQ
What is the best island to stay on in the Togean Islands?
There is no single answer: Kadidiri for diving and a social scene, Malenge for beaches and snorkeling, Una Una for serious divers, Katupat for a central base near the jellyfish lake, Bomba for the shortest journey. Most stays of a week combine two areas.
How much does accommodation cost in the Togean Islands?
From about Rp 150,000-200,000 per person per night full board at village homestays and shoestring stays, Rp 250,000-400,000 at budget resorts, Rp 400,000-800,000 mid-range, and from around €60 per night (for two, full board) at the premium end. Meals are almost always included because there is nowhere else to eat.
Do I need to book in advance?
For July-September and the December holidays, yes — weeks ahead for popular places, which mostly book by WhatsApp rather than online platforms. Off-season, a few days' notice is usually enough (and matters for arranging your boat pickup).
Are there hotels in Wakai?
Only basic town lodgings (Hotel Anugerah is the name that comes up), used for early-ferry overnights rather than holidays. Stay on the islands proper.
Which resorts have 24-hour electricity and WiFi?
Very few. Most properties run generators from evening until around 22:00-24:00. Reconnect (24/7 solar, Starlink), The Cliff (24-hour solar, free WiFi), Sanctum Una Una (24/7 solar, Starlink) and Bahia Tomini (24-hour solar) are the standouts, and Starlink is creeping into a few more; everywhere else, treat power and signal as evening luxuries.
