Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach is the budget institution of the Togeans: five freestanding bungalows in a row behind a quiet, sunset-facing beach on Togean Island proper, about 25 minutes by boat from Wakai port. Rooms are basic but well kept — private bathroom, mosquito net, a hammock on the veranda — and the rate has always been per person with three meals a day plus all-day coffee and tea included (children under 12 pay half). Electricity comes from solar panels and runs evenings only, roughly 6 to 10 pm, and there is no wifi, so come prepared to switch off. The long-time owner, Irina, is the reason most guests rate it so highly (4.3/5 on Tripadvisor across 71 reviews, with a Travelers' Choice badge): she organizes the free boat pickup from Wakai for stays of more than one night and runs excursions to Jellyfish Lake, Kadidiri, Taipi Island, Batulemoto reef and Carina beach. The house reef in front is unremarkable — this is a place for sunsets, home cooking and day trips rather than world-class snorkelling off the sand. Rates and operation were last firmly confirmed in late 2024, so contact the resort directly for current prices before you travel.
