Ale Beach opened in 2018 as a five-room, Italian-Indonesian family place on Angkayo, a small private islet off Malenge with no village and no other resort — just a white-sand beach and one of the area's better house reefs directly in front. The property has since been relaunched as The Angkayo, a small boutique resort with renovated bungalows (sea-view king rooms, deluxe doubles and twins, all with private bathrooms and mosquito nets), a beachfront restaurant-bar and a garden lounge. Early guest scores on the new listing are excellent (9.6/10 on Booking.com from a small sample). Rooms start around US$47 a night on OTAs, and the resort takes direct bookings via its website, WhatsApp or email with a 30% deposit. Days here are snorkeling the reef off the beach, kayaking, boat and fishing trips, and crossing to Malenge for village visits. As almost everywhere in the Togeans, don't expect air-conditioning or reliable wifi — confirm current comforts and the meal arrangement when you book. Reach it via the Ampana–Malenge public boats (the resort has offered free harbour pickup) or by charter from Wakai.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ale Beach the same as The Angkayo?

Yes — the family-run Ale Beach (opened 2018) on Angkayo islet has been relaunched as The Angkayo, with renovated bungalows, a new website and new OTA listings. Older reviews under the Ale Beach name refer to the pre-renovation property.

How do I get to The Angkayo?

Take a public boat from Ampana toward Malenge (around 4.5 hours, roughly Rp 110,000; several departures a week) — the resort has offered free pickup from Malenge harbour, about 15 minutes away. From Wakai, a private charter runs roughly Rp 500,000–600,000 per boat. Confirm current schedules with the resort before traveling.

Is there diving at The Angkayo?

There's no confirmed dive center on the islet — the draw is the house reef just off the beach, which is among the better snorkeling spots in the Malenge area. Dive trips elsewhere in the Togeans can be discussed with the resort.

Do I book direct or through an OTA?

Both work: rooms appear on Booking.com and Airbnb from about US$47/night, or book direct via angkayo.com, WhatsApp (+62 822 3759 4817) or info@angkayo.com with a 30% deposit (balance due two months before arrival; strict cancellation terms).
